BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - For the first time in its nine-year history, the Ohio women's soccer team suffered a defeat to Bowling Green as the Bobcats fell by a 2-0 score at Cochrane Field on Friday.

The Falcons scored on a Corbie Yee goal in the 11th minute to take an early lead and then added an insurance goal on a penalty kick by Julie Trundle in the 60th minute to secure their first-ever victory over Ohio. In eight previous meetings against the Bobcats, the best Bowling Green faired was a scoreless tie in Athens on Oct. 8, 1999, and had been outscored 15-1 in seven losses.

"We played good at times but not good enough," said Ohio head coach Stacy Strauss. "Their first goal was a little bit of a breakdown defensively when they got a through-ball in on a breakaway and they finished it. The second goal was on a suspect penalty call in the box and they buried the penalty kick."

According to Strauss, junior forward Tiffany Horvath (Strongsville, Ohio) and freshmen midfielders Erika Schmitt (Wyoming, Ohio) and Kate Fledderjohn (Fairfield, Ohio) all had strong performances for the Bobcats on Friday. Schmitt led the squad with three shots in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kieniele King (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) saw her first collegiate action for Ohio and made two saves while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes. Falcon senior Ali Shingler made three saves en route to her second shutout of the season and the 11th of her career.

The loss dropped the Bobcats to 3-8-0 and 1-4-0 in the Mid-American Conference while Bowling Green improved to 7-6-0 and 3-2-0 in the MAC. The Falcons advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament after winning the MAC Tournament as the eighth seed.

Ohio hopes to rebound on Sunday at Toledo, who beat Akron 1-0 on a penalty kick with just three seasons remaining in the first overtime period on Friday. The Bobcats and Rockets (7-5-0, 2-3-0 MAC) will square off at 1 p.m. at Scott Park.

Following Sunday's contest, Ohio will play its final two regular-season home matches of the season on Oct. 14 and 16. Next Friday, the Bobcats will host Ball State at 3 p.m. before playing Miami at 1 p.m. on Sunday during Senior Day at Chessa Field.
