YPSILANTI, Mich. ? The Eastern Michigan Eagles handed the Ohio women?s basketball team its second straight loss in Mid-American Conference action, 93-61, Saturday night in the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich., improving to 3-2 in MAC play, while the Bobcats fall to 3-3.
The Bobcats and Eastern Michigan played an evenly fought game for the first four minutes of the opening frame, as the Eagles led 13-12 at 16:17.
Eastern Michigan, fueled by a 32-8 run, led by as many as 21, 45-24, with 2:52 remaining in the half. The Eagles would hold a 49-30 advantage heading into the break, but the Bobcats outscored Eastern Michigan 6-4 in the remaining minutes.
Ryan Coleman and Sarah VanMetere were the only players in double-digit scoring at the half, leading the field with 11 and 12 points, respectively. Eastern Michigan, who shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the first half, connected on 17-of-32 shots, while the Bobcats where led by Senior Kristian Kirkpatrick (Costa Mesa, Calif.) with eight points.
Eastern Michigan continued to roll in the second half, building on its halftime lead through out the stanza. The Eagles pushed their lead out to a game-high 33 points with minutes to play, as the reigning Mid-American Conference Champions went on to win, 93-61.
The Eagles?s Nikki Knapp led all scorers with 21 points, while pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds, for a double-double. Eastern Michigan shot a game high 55.7 percent from the floor, connecting on 34-of-64 shots.
Kirkpatrick led Ohio with 11 points, while freshman Simone Redd (Warrensville Hts., Ohio) and Lauren Revesz (Bridgeville, Pa.) each added 10 points, as the only Bobcats to score in double-figures. Erin Isbell (Gahanna, Ohio) pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while Angel Hornsburger (Columbus, Ohio) led the team with three assists.
The Bobcats will return to The Convo for a two-game homestand starting next Saturday as they host Buffalo at 1 p.m. The contest is the first of a double-header with the men?s basketball team, who takes on Bowling Green to follow. The women welcome Western Michigan to Athens on Wednesday, Feb. 2, to complete the home-swing.
