Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. ? The Ohio University baseball team fell to UNC-Greensboro 7-3 as the Spartans came up with three runs in the sixth and seventh inning.
Ohio (2-3) led 2-1 thanks to junior Brian Colopy's (Columbus) 2-run single to right in the fourth.
Junior Adam Russell (North Olmstead) (0-1) looked fine through the first five innings giving up just one run on five hits. He struck out four with no walks.
The Spartans (8-1) though, were able to notch three runs in the sixth, mounting a rally with two outs.
After retiring the first two batters, Russell walked his first hitter of the game and that was followed by a double to put runners on second and third. Ohio then decided to intentionally walk the bases loaded.
Jeremy Roulin then doubled into right field to clear the bases and UNC-Greensboro had a 4-2 advantage.
In the seventh, Russell had two outs and a runner on first when the Spartans staged another rally. First, an RBI single by Jay Maule put the Bobcats down 5-2. Russell then intentionally walked the next batter to put runners on first and second.
Ryan White (Cleveland) then relieved Russell and gave up a two-run double to put the score at 7-2.
The Bobcats scored one more in the ninth on an RBI single to center by Colopy.
Russell went 6 2/3 for the Bobcats, giving up seven runs, all earned, on nine hits, three walks and five strikeouts.
Chris Mason (2-0) picked up the win, going three scoreless innings in relief. He allowed just one hit, while striking out nine. Spartan starter Nick Starnes went the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Ohio and UNC-Greensboro will continue their three-game series Saturday with the first pitch being rescheduled for 4 p.m. due to the chance of rain.
