Box Score LORETTO, Pa. ? In its first- road game of the season, the Ohio men?s basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting St. Francis (Pa.) squad and fell to the Red Flash 83-74 Tuesday night at the Stokes Center.
St. Francis (4-2) converted 26-of-51 (51 percent) from the field, including 9-of-12 (75 percent) from three-point range, and made 22 of 27 (82 percent) free throws. Ohio, meanwhile, shot 27-of-64 (42 percent) from the field, 4-of-16 (25 percent) from behind the arc and 16-of-23 (70 percent) from the charity stripe.
?St. Francis really deserved to win the game tonight,? said Bobcat head coach Tim O?Shea. ?They played exceptionally well and we showed some of our inexperience. I knew going on the road was going to be a challenge for us.?
Freshman forward Leon Williams (Baltimore) led the Bobcats (3-1) with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double. Junior guard Mychal Green (Columbus) contributed 15 points for Ohio while junior forward Jeff Halbert (White Bear Lake, Minn.) added 12 points on four three-pointers and senior forward Terren Harbut (Lexington, Ky.) chipped in 10 for his fourth game in a row.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bobcats were freshman point guard Jeremy Fears (Joliet, Ill.) with seven points, sophomore forward Sonny Troutman (Indianapolis) with four and senior center Clay McGowen (Westerville) with two.
Darshan Luckey paced St. Francis with 23 points while Rodney Gibson came off the bench to pour in a season-high 17 points. Point guard Garrett Farha provided all but one of his 14 points in the second half as Jason Osborne scored most of his 12 points in the first half when the Red Flash built up a nine-point lead going into the break.
?Gibson is not a guy who has played much for them,? said O?Shea about the Red Flash senior, ?but he came in tonight and made all four of his three-pointers and scored 17 points. That?s college basketball. They just shot the ball so well.?
The Bobcats (3-1) will next travel to Washington, D.C., to face American at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Ohio will then host Duquesne and former Bobcat coach Danny Nee on Saturday, Dec. 18, in a 2 p.m. contest that will be televised by the Ohio Sports Network and also shown on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh.
