CHICAGO ? The Ohio women?s basketball team dropped its sixth consecutive decision by a score of 58-45 to the Chicago State Cougars Wednesday night in the Jacoby D. Dickens Center. Freshman Simone Redd (Warrensville Hts., Ohio) led the Bobcats with 12 points and seven rebounds for the second game in a row.
Chicago State jumped out to an 11-4 lead over the first seven minutes but the Bobcats charged right back, bringing the score to with in one at 10:08. The Cougars counteracted with another 11-4 run, giving them the largest lead of the half, 22-14 with three minutes remaining before the break. Ohio outscored Chicago State 4-3 in the remaining minutes to end the stanza, 25-18. The Bobcats hadn?t scored less than 20 points in a half since Dec. 13, 2002, when Ohio posted 11 first half points versus Ohio State.
The Cougars continually widened the gap going on a 27-14 run to gain the largest lead of the game, 52-32 at 8:52. Ohio, sparked by Quintana Ward?s (Park Forest, Ill.) first career block, cut the deficit to 11 points, at 3:41, with a 10-1 run. The late push wouldn?t be enough as the Bobcats fell to the Cougars by an eventual score of 58-45.
Three Bobcats finished in double figures, joining Redd where Erin Isbell (Gahanna, Ohio) and Kristian Kirkpatrick (Costa Mesa, Calif.), who each added 11 points. Ward dished out a team-leading and season-high six assists, while making a team-leading five steals. Three Bobcats also came up with blocks as Isbell picked up her sixth of the season, while Ward and Redd each tallied their first-career blocks.
Ohio returns to Athens this Sunday, as the Bobcats play host to Cleveland State before breaking for the holidays, game time is set for 6 p.m. Ohio will resume play, Wednesday, Dec. 29, with a home tilt versus UNC-Wilmington, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
