ATHENS, Ohio ? The Ohio women?s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to Wright State, 97-84, Sunday afternoon, at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Junior Tiffany Bryd (Columbus) led all Bobcats with 15 points, while three other teammates scored in double digits.
Wright State came out hard in the first half, starting the game on a 16-2 run, a lead Ohio would never recover from. The Raiders caped off the first half with a 12-3 run, extending their lead to 26 points, by a score of 57-33. Ohio?s Lauren Revesz (Bridgeville, Pa.) and Simone Redd (Warrensville Hts.) led the Bobcats at the half, each chipping in 6 points.
The Raiders enlarged the margin to 29 points early on in the second half. Ohio would rally back late in the second stanza. A 14-0 run, sparked by three point buckets by Lindsay Wight (Waynesville) and Andrea Johnson (Columbus), narrowed the gap to 12 at the four minute mark. Wright State would battle back and keep the Bobcats at bay, as the Raiders went on to win 97-84.
This is the third game in row that Ohio has scored 80 plus points. Joining Byrd in double digit scoring were, Wight with 13, Revesz with 10 and Elizabeth Brown (Thermopolis, Wyo.), who added 11. Revesz posted her first double-double of her career, adding a team leading 11 rebounds to her 10 points. Freshman Quintana Ward (Park Forest, Ill.) had a team high five assists.
The Bobcats return home Dec. 1, playing host to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Nets Ohio.
