ATHENS, Ohio ? Kevin Kerr's 37-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game lifted Ohio to a 34-32 victory over Buffalo Saturday night at Peden Stadium.

It was a game of firsts for the Bobcats: the first victory of the season for Ohio, the first home win of the Brian Knorr era, the first time since 1998 that two Bobcats ? Chad Brinker and Dontrell Jackson ? rushed for over 100 yards in the same contest, and the first time Ohio accumulated over 500 yards of total offense and over 400 yards rushing since the 2000 season.

A 39-yard field goal by Kerr at the beginning of the fourth quarter gave Ohio a 31-16 lead. The Bulls responded with two touchdown catches by Andre Forde and a 29-yard field goal by Dallas Pelz to take a 32-31 lead with 4:39 left in the contest.

Dontrell Jackson's second one-yard touchdown dive of the game gave Ohio a 28-9 lead over Buffalo with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter. In addition to his two scores, the senior quarterback from Harvey, Ill., had 28 carries for 157 yards.

The Bulls answered back with an eight-play, 80-yard scoring drive to close the gap to 28-16 with 2:41 left in the third quarter. Tailback Aaron Leeper scored from six yards out for the Bulls.

First-half touchdown runs by Brinker, Stafford Owens and Jackson gave the Bobcats a 21-3 halftime lead.

Brinker capped off a seven-play, 85-yard game-opening drive with a 19-yard touchdown run to give Ohio an early 7-0 lead. The senior running back from Martins Ferry finished the game with 149 yards on 29 carries.

Owens followed that up with a 20-yard dash at the 7:52 mark in the first quarter. The Bobcats' offense averaged 11 yards per play in the first two drives of the game.

The Bulls got on the board at the beginning of the second quarter with a 22-yard Pelz field goal.

A one-yard touchdown dive by Jackson with just 11 seconds remaining in the first half capped a 16-play, 80-yard drive.

Led by Brinker's 17 first-half carries for 121 yards, the Bobcats dominated Buffalo 262-107 in total yardage at the half. The final comparison, 505-435, included 406 yards on the ground for Ohio.

The Bulls opened the second half with a 13-play, 80-yard drive capped off by a six-yard touchdown pass from Randall Secky to fullback Ramon Guzman at the 9:44 mark of the third quarter. Pelz missed Buffalo's point-after-touchdown attempt.

The Bobcats (1-4, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) travel to Bowling Green for their next conference match-up on Oct. 5. The 4 p.m. contest will be televised by the Ohio Sports Network.
