Steven Swisher was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference catcher who, upon graduation in 1973, was a first-round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox. During his four years here, Ohio University won two MAC Baseball Championships (1970 and 1971). Swisher is listed still in no fewer than seven Ohio University career-record categories (at time of induction): his 18 career home runs tie for fifth, as do his 96 runs batted in; his slugging average of .596 is seventh; he’s tenth in hits (116) and at bats (360). He was a rare three-sport All-State selection in football, basketball, and baseball at Parkersburg (West Virginia) South High School. In the 1970 College World Series, he and Ohio battery-mate Terry Wenger were the first all-freshman batter in College World Series history. He was First Team All-MAC in 1971, 1972, 1973. He was All District IV/All-Mideast Region in 1973.
