Ohio Wrestling Falls to Buffalo, 27-9

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio wrestling team opened the Mid-American Conference portion of the season suffering a loss at Buffalo, 27-9, on Saturday (Nov. 25).

"We're right there," said head coach Joel Greenlee. "We just have to continue to improve. We have to coach a little better and they have to wrestle a little better. I think we're on the right track, we're just pretty young and have a way to go."

125- Coleton Chase vs. Kyle Akins
In the first match of the day at 125 pounds, Coleton Chase (Lancaster, Ohio) fell to Buffalo's Kyle Akins in a win by fall in 2:31

133- No. 18 Cameron Kelly vs. No. 5 Bryan Lantry
No. 18 Junior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) would face Buffalo's Bryan Lantry, who is currently ranked fifth in the weight-class, for the second year in a row. In last year's battle, Kelly would pull away a 6-4 decision win. Kelly would earn a victory again this year in a 4-3 decision win. Kelly would earn a takedown in the first round, allowing him to lead 2-1 heading into the second round. Kelly would earn another point in the second round before earning his fourth in the last round to mark Ohio's first victory on the day. Kelly now has five career wins over Lantry.

141- Alec Hagan vs. Blake Retell
Freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Ohio) started his match with a takedown in the first round, giving him a 4-0 lead before the second round. Hagan would earn another point in the second round, dominating the match until the end of the third to pull out a 5-0 decision win. Hagan's victory marked as the freshman's first dual meet as a Bobcat.

149- Kade Kowalski vs. Jason Estevez
Redshirt sophomore Kade Kowalski (Nashport, Ohio) began the match with a 5-3 lead going into the second round. Before the third round, Kowalski would lead 6-5 while Estevez had 1:12 of riding time. Estevez would earn a takedown in the third round to earn an 8-6 decision win, giving Buffalo a 9-6 lead.

157- Cullen Cummings vs. Eric Fasnacht
Redshirt senior Cullen Cummings (Woodridge, Ill.) began the match with a 4-2 lead after the first round. In the second round, Cummings and Fasnacht would battle to bring the scores to 7-6 before the last round. Cummings would continue to control the match in the last round, adding two points to earn a 9-6 decision victory. Cumming's win would mark Ohio's third on the day, tying up the scores once again at 9-9.

165- Ben Schnieder vs. Derek Holcomb
Redshirt freshman Ben Schneider (Orland Park, Ill.) would suffer a 6-2 decision loss to Buffalo's Derek Holcomb, giving the Bull's a 12-9 lead.

174- Joe Terry vs. Austin Weigel
Redshirt freshman Joe Terry (Pickerington, Ohio) would start his match tied at three while Buffalo's Austin Weigel had 1:20 of riding time before the second round. Terry would fall to Weigel in a 9-5 decision, giving Buffalo a 15-9 lead.

184- Hunter Yeargan vs. Brett Perry
Redshirt freshman Hunter Yeargan (Willard, Mo.) would face Buffalo's Brett Perry. Yeargan and Perry were both scoreless in the first round. In the second round, Yeargan would give up a reversal to trail Perry 2-0 going into the third round. Yeargan would fall to Perry 4-1.

197- Aaron Naples vs. Joe Ariola
Freshman Aaron Naples (Brunswick, Ohio) would suffer a loss to Buffalo's Joe Ariola in a win by fall in 1:33.

285- Zack Parker vs. Jake Gunning
Redshirt junior Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) would give Buffalo's Jake Gunning a tough match. At the end of the first, Parker trailed Gunning 2-1 before tying up the match at 2-2 after the second round. Parker would suffer a 5-3 loss to Gunning.

Ohio returns to Athens to host Appalachian State to continue conference action in the first home dual of the season. The meet is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 2 in the Convocation Center.
