James Odenthal

James Odenthal, joined Ohio Athletics in 2016 and has served Ohio University since 2006 in a variety of roles. He currently serves as the staff physical therapist.

Odenthal returned to the Ohio Sports Medicine team in 2016 after serving as clinic director for Ohio University Therapy Associates clinic at Ohio University’s Hudson Health Center for nine years.  He previously spent time with the sports medicine staff from 2006-08.   

Odenthal is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS).  He has also completed advanced residency training in orthopedic manual therapy, receiving a Doctor of Manual Therapy designation from the Ola Grimsby Institute, Bellvue, Wash.  He specializes in orthopedic care for the extremities and spine as well as post-operative rehabilitation of Ohio athletes. Odenthal works closely with Athletic Trainers and Team Physicians as part of the Ohio Sports Medicine staff.  

Odenthal earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), from Ohio University in 2006.  Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Science (Exercise Physiology) from Ohio in 2003.  

In addition to working with Ohio Athletics, Odenthal serves as an assistant clinical faculty member and Director of Residency Programs in the Ohio University Division of Physical Therapy. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Maggie, and two children, Will and Abbie.Â
