Former Ohio Football standout defensive lineman Casey Sayles is set to open up the inaugural Alliance of American Football season as a member of the Birmingham Iron.

The Iron will kick off the 2019 season on Sunday (Feb. 10) at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., against the Memphis Express. The contest is slated to get underway at 4 p.m. ET and will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

Sayles, who competed at Ohio from 2013-16, totaled over 100 tackles (111) in 50 games played for the Bobcats. A team captain in 2015 and '16, he tallied 12.5 sacks, six passes defensed and three fumble recoveries. Sayles garnered All-Mid-American Conference Second Team honors as a senior in 2016 when he started all 14 games and compiled 33 tackles (18 solo) and registered a career-high 6.0 sacks.

Prior to joining the Iron, Sayles had stints on the rosters of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Sayles finished with 76 career tackles and five sacks at Omaha North High School, earning First Team Super All-State selection.

Led by some of the most respected football minds in the game, The Alliance of American Football is high-quality professional football fueled by a dynamic Alliance between players, fans and the game. Founded by TV and film producer Charlie Ebersol and Hall of Famer Bill Polian, The Alliance features eight teams, under a single entity structure, playing a 12-week season kicking-off February 9, 2019 on CBS and culminating with the championship game the weekend of April 26-28, 2019.
