James, Schreiner Named MAC Field Hockey Players of the Week

CLEVELAND – Ohio field hockey juniors Deborah James and Molly Schreiner have been named Mid-American Conference Players of the Week, the league announced today (Sept. 29). James was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Schreiner earned the Goalkeeper of the Week honor.

James (Hertfordshire, England) has been a focal point of the Ohio attack all season, and that did not change this past weekend. James played a huge role in both of Ohio's comeback victories over the weekend, earning two assists in both the Appalachian State win and the Bellarmine win. Overall, James recorded four assists and assisted on Sunday's game-winning goal at Bellarmine, while her defensive efforts helped the Bobcats defeat App State for the first time since 2019.

Schreiner (State College, Pa.) continued her standout season this past weekend with some rock-solid goalkeeping in Ohio's undefeated weekend. The junior allowed just one goal on Friday against Appalachian State before recording two saves to help Ohio close out a victory. On Sunday, she was again a brick wall, allowing two goals before recording five saves in the rest of the game, coming up big when it mattered right at the end of the game as Ohio held on to win 3-2 over Bellarmine.

James, Schreiner and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action on Friday, Oct. 2 when Ohio hosts Central Michigan. First touch is set for 3 p.m. ET at Pruitt Field and can be seen on ESPN+.
