AMHERST, Mass – The Ohio baseball team (9-38, 6-21 MAC) dropped a close game at UMass (16-24, 12-15 MAC), ultimately falling 1-0 in the series finale on Sunday, May 3.
The Bobcats recorded three hits and one error while the Minutemen finished with four hits and no errors.
Sophomore
Brady Alexander (Glenshaw, Pa.), junior
Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill). and redshirt junior
Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) all recorded one hit for Ohio.
Stack also tallied one stolen base, tying the single-season program record with 24 total.
Freshman
Evan Lichtenauer (Newark, Ohio) started on the mound for Ohio. In 7.0 innings pitched, Lichtenauer recorded one strikeout while allowing one run and four hits. Redshirt sophomore
Aiden Cook (Penfield, N.Y.) replaced Lichtenauer on the mound. Cook recorded one strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched.
UMass took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. It was a quiet game for both teams' offenses.
Ohio got its first hit of the game in the top of the seventh. The Bobcats had some good scoring opportunities in later in the game, leaving two runners on base in the seventh and ninth. Unfortunately, Ohio could not capitalize on its late opportunities and ultimately fell to UMass 1-0.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Morehead State on Wednesday, May 6. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.
