Ohio Softball Concludes Regular Season at UMass Saturday Afternoon

AMHERST, Mass. – The Ohio softball team (35-18, 17-10 MAC) wrapped up the 2026 regular season on Saturday afternoon (May 2), falling to UMass (19-30, 10-17 MAC), 10-4. 

Overall, Ohio scored four runs on nine hits and did not commit an error, while UMass scored 10 runs on 12 hits and did not commit an error. 

At the plate, freshman Allie Cervola (Hunker, Pa.) led the Bobcats going 3-for-3 with a home run, RBI and a run scored, while senior Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a double. Sophomore Sydney Young (Charleston, W. Va.) had a home run, while sophomore Jordyn Wycuff (Pataskala, Ohio) and senior Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) both recorded doubles. 

In the circle, sophomore Ally Meyers (Waterville, Ohio) got the start, pitching one inning, allowing three runs on three hits and walked one. Graduate student Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) pitched five innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out three. 

UMass took an early lead in the bottom of the first, taking a 2-0 lead on a two-RBI single. Ohio cut the deficit in half in the top of the second. After junior Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) reached on a leadoff single, Cervola drove her home with an RBI single, cutting the UMass lead to 2-1 going into the bottom of the second. However, UMass got the run back and then some in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead going into the third inning. 

After UMass increased their lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the third, the Bobcats got runs back in the top of the fourth. With one out, Young hit a solo home run to right. Then with two outs, Cervola hit her first career home run to left, cutting the Ohio deficit to 9-3 going into the bottom of the fourth.  

After the Bobcats made quick work of UMass in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, Ohio got another run in the top of the sixth when Cervola recorded her second RBI single of the game, scoring Wycuff, cutting the deficit to 9-4. However, UMass go the run back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly to take a 10-4 lead into the seventh. 

Ohio would look to rally in the top of the seventh when Bare singled to lead off the inning. However, the UMass defense would be able to record the next three outs for the 10-4 win. 

Up next, the Bobcats head to Akron, Ohio for the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament May 6-9 at Firestone Stadium. Bracket, dates and game times will be announced following the conclusion of Sunday's games.
