Ohio Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (7-28, 4-14 MAC) fell to conference opponent Miami (22-12, 12-6 MAC) in the final game of the 'Battle of the Bricks' series in seven innings, 17-6, on Sunday, April 12. 

Ohio recorded six runs on 11 hits and committed two errors, while Miami had 17 runs on 14 hits and committed two errors. 

On the mound, junior AJ Dallmayer (Washington Court House, Ohio) got the start, allowing seven runs on five hits in 2.1 innings pitched, walking three and striking out three. Senior Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) allowed four runs on six hits and walked one in one inning pitched. Junior Hunter Brooks (Jamestown, Ohio) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on one hit, walking two and striking out three. 

At the plate, graduate student Colton Shirley (Anderson, Ind.) went 3-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI. Junior Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Senior Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) recorded two runs and two RBI on one hit. Redshirt junior Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) added two runs and one RBI, and fifth-year Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.) had one hit and one RBI. Junior Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) scored two runs on one hit. 

Miami was first to strike, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. 

After a scoreless second, Ohio opened the third with three hits and a walk to get on the board. Henson followed with an RBI single through the right for the second run of the inning. With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly raced junior Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, Ky.) across home for the tying run, setting the score, 3-3. 

The RedHawks responded in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on six hits to take an 11-3 lead. 

With a runner on first, Harris hit a one-RBI double to left center, then crossed home from a Shepherd RBI double to cut into the deficit, 11-5. The Bobcats added to their total in the top of the sixth, scoring one run off an RBI single from Shirley. 

Miami scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth and held Ohio scoreless in the top of the seventh to win game three of the series in seven innings, 17-6. 

Up next, Ohio will travel to Northern Kentucky for a midweek tilt on Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
