Ohio Softball Defeats Robert Morris, 9-1, on Final Day at Catamount Classic

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Ohio softball team (16-8) wrapped up the 2026 Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina on Sunday morning (March 8). Defeating Robert Morris (7-6), 9-1 in five innings, to close out the weekend, 4-1. 

Overall, Ohio scored nine runs on 12 hits and did not commit an error, while Robert Morris scored one run on three hits and did not commit an error. 

At the plate, senior Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) recorded a home run with three RBI, while junior Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Jordyn Wycuff (Pataskala, Ohio) added two hits, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while junior Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) added two hits and scored two runs. 

In the circle, graduate student Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits, walked one and struck out four. Senior Keegan Moore (South Point, Ohio) entered the game in the fifth, pitching one inning, allowing no runs on not hits, walked one and struck out one. 

The Bobcats struck first in the top of the second inning. After Wilson and Farmer reached on back-to-back singles, an RBI single from Wycuff put Ohio on the board. After an RBI single from Hummel put Ohio up 3-0, a three-run home run from Westler gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead entering the bottom of the second. 

After a scoreless bottom of the second from Robert Morris, Ohio added on in the top of the third when Wycuff hit a two-out solo home run to center, giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead. 

After a scoreless top of the fourth from the Bobcats, Robert Morris got on the board in the bottom of the inning off a solo home run to right field, cutting the Ohio lead to 7-1 after four full innings. 

The Bobcats added on in the top of the fifth inning. After Wilson reached on a leadoff single, Farmer crushed a two-run home run to right field, putting Ohio up 9-1 entering the bottom of the fifth. 

Robert Morris looked to extend the game in the bottom of the fifth, drawing a one-out walk. However, Moore would be able to get the next batter to fly out, before striking out the final batter of the game to secure the 9-1 win. 

UP NEXT:
The Bobcats open Mid-American Conference play March 13-14 when they head to Toledo, Ohio to take on Toledo. Friday's game is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET, with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET.
