Junior Mikie Lieving (New Haven, W.Va.) finished out the game, throwing two-thirds an inning and did not allow a run or a hit.

After CMU stranded a runner at third in the top of the second, the Ohio bats came alive in the bottom of the frame. After Hummel led the inning off with a single up the middle, she would move to third when Farmer reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases with no outs. Then with one out, Hummel would score on a sacrifice fly. Moments later, Wycuff reached on a two-RBI single, followed by back-to-back home runs from Young and McDaniel, giving Ohio a 6-0 lead going into the second inning.

CMU got on the board in the top of the first on a solo home run, cutting the Ohio lead to 6-1. However, Ohio added on in the bottom of the second inning when Bare hit a two-run home run to center, putting the Bobcats up 8-1 going into the third inning.

CMU cut the Ohio lead in half in the top of the third, scoring three runs on two hits, cutting their deficit to 8-4 going into the bottom of the inning. After a quick top of the fourth, the Bobcats got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run from Farmer, putting Ohio up 10-4 entering the fifth inning.

After the Bobcats stranded two runners in the bottom of the fifth, CMU got a run back in the top of the sixth, scoring on an RBI single up the middle, cutting the Ohio lead to 10-5 going into the bottom of the sixth. Ohio responded in the bottom of the inning, adding two runs when Westler hit a two-run home run, putting Ohio up 12-5 going into the top of the seventh.
