Ohio Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Dayton on Sunday

DAYTON, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (2-10, 0-0 MAC) split its doubleheader (12-5, 6-9) at Dayton (8-2, 0-0 A10) on Sunday, March 1.
 
Game 1: Ohio 12, Dayton 5
Ohio finished with 12 runs, 17 hits and two errors while Dayton finished with five runs, nine hits and two errors.
 
Senior Reese Harmon (Columbus, Ind.) finished 4-for-5 at the plate, leading Ohio in hits. Redshirt junior Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) recorded a team-high three RBI's in addition to two hits and two runs.  Five different Bobcats finished with two hits. Junior Tyler Stack (Oswego, Ill.) led the team with three runs in addition to one hit.
 
Freshman Colton Landtiser started on the mound for Ohio. Landtiser allowed five runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Freshman Mason Gass (Oakdale, Pa.) earned his first career win after replacing Landtiser on the mound. In 6.2 innings pitched, Gass recorded five strikeouts while allowing two hits and no runs.
 
Dayton opened the game with four runs in the first innings, taking an early 4-0 lead over the Bobcats.
 
Ohio responded with three runs in the top of the second. Senior Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) scored after redshirt sophomore Max Palinski (Gates Mills, Ohio) advanced on a balk. Senior Cam Hill (Chicago, Ill.) cut Daytons's lead to 4-3 with a two-run double. Dayton scored one run in the bottom of the second, extending its lead to 5-3.
 
Gass replaced Landtiser on the mound in the bottom of the third inning.
 
Ohio cut Dayton's lead to 5-4 with two hits and a run in the top of the fourth. After being walked, Stack stole second. Harmon's single allowed Stack to advance to third base. After Harmon stole second, Stack stole home and scored a run for the Bobcats.
 
The Bobcats took its first lead of the game, 7-5, with three runs on three hits and two errors in the top of the fifth inning. Shepherd got the scoring started with an RBI double to right field. Palinski followed up with an RBI single as Stack advanced to second and Shepherd scored. Palinski advanced on an error while Stack scored another run for the Bobcats. Ohio lead Dayton 7-5 heading into the sixth inning.
 
Ohio scored another three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Bryant hit a two-run triple to extend Ohio's lead to 9-5. Bryant went on to score a run for the Bobcats off an RBI single by fifth year Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.). At the end of the sixth, Ohio led Dayton 10-5.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Bobcats put up two run in the top of the ninth inning. Back-to-back sac flies extended Ohio's lead to 12-5. After a final strikeout by Gass in the bottom of the ninth, Ohio went on defeat Dayton 12-5.
 
Game 2: Dayton 9, Ohio 6 (7.5 innings)
Ohio finished with six runs on eight hits and two errors while Dayton finished with nine runs on nine hits and two errors.
 
Stack led the Bobcats at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs. Ohio shared the wealth on offense as six different Bobcats finished with at least one hit.
 
Junior AJ Dallmayer (Washington Court House) started on the mound for Ohio. Dallmayer allowed four runs and four hits while recording five strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Senior Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) and sophomore Hayden Blosser (Avon Lake, Ohio) tallied one strikeout each.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Ohio got on the board in the top of the second after Stack scored off Harmon's sac fly to right field. Dayton took a 2-1 lead with two runs and one hit in the bottom of the second.
 
Dayton extended its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning. The Flyers scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, going up 6-1 against the Bobcats.
 
Ohio commenced its comeback effort in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five runs on three hits. Stack scored another run off an RBI single by Taylor Harris (Parrish, Fla.). An RBI single by Bryant and a fielding error by Dayton's outfield allowed three more Bobcats to score and made it a one-run game. Bryant also scored a run, tying the game at 6-6.
 
Dayton responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was concluded in the middle of the eighth inning resulting in a 9-6 win for the Flyers.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action at Pittsburgh on Wednesday, March 4. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ACCNX.
