Two School Records Fall on Day Two of MAC Swim and Dive Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team was back in action Thursday (Feb. 26) for the second day of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships inside the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of Akron. Ohio sits in second place after two days of competition with 193 points.

Akron currently leads with 265 points, while Buffalo (191), Ball State (189) and Miami (188) sit behind the Bobcats, 

The night began with the 500-yard freestyle where freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) placed fourth overall with a time of 4:53.29. Senior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished second in the consolation final, 10th overall, finishing with a time of 4:54.42, while sophomore Ashlyn Morr (Galena, Ohio) placed sixth in the consolation final, 14thoverall, with a time of 4:56.79. 

In the 200 IM, sophomore Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, Ariz.) placed fourth with a time of 2:00.80, while senior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished sixth with a time of 2:01.68. 

In the 50 free, junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) placed third with a time of 22.10, setting a new personal best Ohio program record. The record shaved .07 seconds off the previous school record that she set in 2025 against Eastern Michigan. Freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) placed eighth in her first MAC Championship final, touching in with at time of 23.07.  

In the 1-meter dive, junior Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placed sixth overall with a score of 263.65. Freshman Bella Basford (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fifth in the consolation final, 13th overall, with a score of 247.85. 

In the final event of the night, the 400-yard medley relay, the Ohio team of junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio), senior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), sophomore Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) and Szoke placed second with a new school record time of 3:33.10. The time eclipsed the previous record of 3:34.28 that was set at last year's MAC Championship. 

Up next, the Bobcats are back in action on Friday, Feb. 27 for day three of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships. Prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m. ET, with finals set for 6 p.m. ET. Both sessions can be seen on ESPN+.
