Ohio Baseball Drops Midweek Game to #24 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. VA. – The Ohio Bobcats Baseball team (1-7, 0-0 MAC) dropped a non-conference game to the #24 West Virginia Mountaineers (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) by a score of 19-6 on Tuesday afternoon.

On the hill, redshirt sophomore Aiden Cook (Penfield, N.Y.) went one inning in his third start of the year, allowing one hit and no runs. Nine other pitchers would take the hill in a combined effort from the Bobcat pitching staff.

Offensively, fifth year Will Henson (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for the Bobcats, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI's, and a walk.

The Mountaineers scored the game's first nine runs, scoring in each of the first four innings.

The Bobcats would get on the board with a four run rally in the fifth inning, sparked by senior Reese Harmon (Columbus, Ind.) shooting a 3-2 pitch back up the middle for a single. After a hit batsman and walk loaded the bases for the Bobcats, junior Cameron Boyd (Villa Hills, K.y.) drew a walk, plating Harmon for the Bobcat's first run. The next two Bobcat batters, redshirt junior Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Henson each came through with RBI singles to make the score 9-3. Sophomore infielder Grant Wilson (Bradenton, Fla.) grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, plating the Bobcats' fourth run of the inning.

The Bobcats would add two more runs in the top of the sixth when Henson came through again, doubling home redshirt sophomore Max Palinski (Gates Mills, Ohio) and Boyd for his second and third RBI's of the afternoon. Henson's RBI double brought the Bobcats within three runs of the Mountaineers, with the Bobcats trailing 9-6 entering the bottom of the sixth.

The Mountaineers would answer with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and tack on another five in the bottom of the eighth, holding on to win by a final score of 19-6.

The Bobcats will return to action this Friday, February 27 for their home opener at Bob Wren Field, hosting Dayton in the first game of a four-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET, the game will be streaming on ESPN+ and tickets are available on Ohiobobcats.com.
