ATHENS, Ohio — Ohio University will unveil a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Chair of Honor at Peden Stadium during the pregame show on Saturday, Oct. 24, honoring the service and sacrifice of American military personnel as part of Ohio's Military Appreciation Game.
Ohio ROTC will serve as the community partner for the game, which will recognize the military community and those who have served our country.
The initiative brings together Ohio Athletics, Ohio University's Veterans and Military Student Services and Albany Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9893 to install POW/MIA Chairs of Honor at Peden Stadium and the Convocation Center. Donated by Albany VFW Post 9893, the chairs serve as a lasting tribute to U.S. service members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
"Ohio University is a proud veteran community, and it's an honor for Bobcat Athletics to partner with the Veterans and Military Student Services Center on this project," said Ohio Director of Athletics Slade Larscheid. "The Chair of Honor is a meaningful tribute to prisoners of war and those missing in action, serving as a visible reminder of their sacrifice within historic Peden Stadium."
The Peden Stadium chair will be located near the Army ROTC Red Leg Brigade cannon emplacement. The unveiling will take place during the pregame show ahead of Ohio's Oct. 24 home football game against Eastern Michigan.
"The POW/MIA Chair of Honor serves as a powerful reminder that we must never forget the men and women who have served our country," said Lt. Col. (Ret.) Terry St. Peter, director of Veterans and Military Student Services at Ohio University. "By placing these chairs at Ohio University, we are creating a lasting tribute to their sacrifice and a visible reminder of our responsibility to remember them and their families. We are grateful to our partners at Ohio Athletics and the Albany VFW for helping make this meaningful tribute possible."
As part of Military Appreciation Game, veterans in the Athens and Albany areas who are members of local veterans organizations can receive complimentary tickets through their respective organizations, while supplies last.
Additionally, veterans and currently serving military members can receive a complimentary ticket on game day at the Peden Stadium Box Office at Gate 2 by presenting a valid veteran or military ID.
Additional information about the installation of the POW/MIA chair of honor in the Convocation Center will be shared as the project progresses.
