
Ohio Trails Akron Going Into Day Two of Competition

AKRON, Ohio – The Bobcats' swimming and diving team (5-0) traveled to Akron, Ohio, on Friday evening (Jan. 30) to take on MAC opponent Akron University (3-0). After one day of competition, the Bobcats trail the Zips 132-73.
Junior Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) opened the meet with 1-meter diving, placing first with a score of 596.30. Senior Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) came in third place with a score of 524.86, followed by freshman Bella Basford (Cincinnati, Ohio), who finished in fourth place with a score of 517.80.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Ohio's relay of junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio), freshman Addison Lezinsky (Stratford, Conn), freshman Emma Schwertfeger (Fishers, Ind.), and senior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn) finished in third place with a time of 1:34.62.
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 4:53.79, and sophomore Ashlyn Morr (Galena, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 4:58.12.
Senior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.06.
In the 200 IM, freshman Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, Ariz) finished in third place with a time of with a time of 2:02.84, and senior Morgan Brown finished in fifth place with a time of 2:05.02.
Freshman Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) finished the 200-yard butterfly in third place with a time of 2:01.37, and junior Isabella Arbaugh (Ann Arbor, Mich) finished in fifth place with a time of 2:02.58.
Schweikert placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.47, and sophomore Juliana Slaninka (Mentor, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 2:00.91.
The Bobcats had two finishers inside the top five in the 50-yard fly, with junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) finishing in third place with a time of 24.19, and Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W.Va) finishing in fourth place with a time of 24.57.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, DiBetta finished in first place with a time of 2:13.11. Senior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 2:15.70.
Freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J) finished the 100-yard freestyle in third place with a time of 50.15, and Daigneault finished in fourth place with a time of 50.60.
In the final event of the night, the Bobcats finished the 400-yard medley relay in second place. Freshman Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), DiBetta, Claypoole, and Szoke finished with a time of 3:38.69.
Ohio returns to the pool tomorrow morning (Jan 31) at 10 am for day two of action at Akron. The meet can be watched on the Zips Digital Network.
