Ohio Women’s Soccer Falls to Indiana 1-0 on the Road

Bloomington, Ind. – The Ohio soccer team (2-4-1) traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, on Sunday, September 7, to take on the Hoosiers. Ohio ultimately fell to Indiana University (3-2-1) 1-0.
 
Overall, Ohio was outshot by Indiana 23-12, with the Hoosiers recording nine shots on goal, and the Bobcats had five shots on goal. Ohio finished the match with six corners compared to Indiana's seven.
 
Individually, junior Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) led the Bobcats with three shots and one shot on goal. Senior Hailey Jeng (Centerville, Ohio) and junior Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) both finished with two shots and one shot on goal.
 
Senior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) got the start in net for Ohio and played for all 90 minutes. During the game, she had eight saves, with one goal against.
 
The first shot of the game came in the 11th minute from the Hoosiers, but was blocked by Sloma. A few seconds later, Brooker registered a shot that was blocked by Indiana's goalkeeper. Jeng attempted a shot of her own but could not find the back of the net, keeping the score tied 0-0.
 
In 36th minute, Indiana broke through Sloma to put the Hoosiers ahead by 1-0. After the score, sophomore forward Sania Dearing (Pickerington, Ohio) had a shot on goal, but was unsuccessful.
 
Going into the half, Ohio trailed Indiana 1-0. The Bobcats had three shots with no shots on goal, and Indiana finished with four shots and three shots on goal.
 
In the second half, the Hoosiers had first possessed the ball, but junior Melia Peer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) attempted a shot on goal in the 46th minute, which was blocked by the Indiana keeper.
 
After three back-to-back shots by Indiana, Brooker attempted a shot but was unsuccessful. Four minutes later, two more shots were attempted by Ohio, with Jeng having a shot on goal in the 66th minute, but would be denied.
 
In the 76th minute, senior defender Rayann Pruss had a shot in the bottom left corner, but could not find the bottom of the net off an Indiana save.
Despite a few late shots and corner attempts, the second half ended with no goals scored on either side. Ohio ultimately falls to Indiana 1-0.
 
The Bobcats are on the road Sunday, Sept. 14th, facing off against Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. ET. on Chippewas All-Access.
