SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Ohio Men's golf team returned to action Sunday and Monday at the Carolina Cup, hosted by USC Upstate at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C. The Bobcats placed tied for fourth out of nine competing teams with a score of 894 (+30).
Samford won this year's event, at a score of 884 (+20).
As a team, Ohio opened the tournament with a score of 295 in Sunday's round one. In round two played over the course of Sunday and Monday, the Bobcats improved with a score of 293. Ohio closed with a score of 306 in Monday's third and final round.
Ohio was led by Senior
Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio), who opened with a one under par 71 on Sunday, tied for the ninth best round of the day. He followed with a 74 in the second round and closed with a final round 77 for a total of 225 (+7) to tie for 11
th overall.
Senior
Jack O'Donnell (Powell, Ohio) opened with an 81 in round one, and improved upon that score with a one under par 71 in round two and a 74 in round three for a total of 225 (+9). O'Donnell jumped 23 spots on the leaderboard from day one to day two to finish tied for 19
th.
Senior
Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) finished tied for 23
rd, opening with a 76 in round one, followed by a 74 in round two and a final round 77 for a total of 227 (+11).
Senior
Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario) placed tied for 23
rd, starting with a 74 in Monday's round one, followed by a 73 in round two and an 80 in Monday's third round for a total score of 227 (+11).
Freshman
Rylan Hall (Stratford, Ontario, Canada) placed tied for 33
rd, opening the tournament with a 74 on Sunday followed by a 78 and 79 in rounds two and three for a score of 231 (+15).
Playing as an individual, senior
Sheil Iyer (Dublin, Ohio) opened the tournament with a 75 in round one, followed by a 77 in round two and 79 in round three to finish tied for 33
rd with a score of 231 (+15).
The Bobcats will return to action at the Purdue Fall Invitational hosted by Purdue University at Ackerman-Allen Golf Club Oct. 13-14.
