
Ohio Field Hockey Defeats UC Davis, 2-1, in Overtime

DAVIS, Calif. – The Ohio field hockey team (1-3) opened its three-game California road trip on Thursday (Sept. 11), defeating UC Davis, 2-1, in overtime.

The Bobcats recorded nine shots with six on goal, while the Aggies recorded 14 shots with six on goal.Â

Freshman Karley DuCoin (Turnersville, NJ) recorded her first career goal on two shots. Senior Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) scored the game-winning goal. Freshman Katie Cole (Newark, Del.) picked up her first career assist, while senior Emily Risser (Palmyra, Pa.) added an assist on the game-winning score.

Senior Gwen Hershberger (Harrison City, Pa.) got the start in goal and made five saves on six shots on goal. Â

The game began with both teams fighting for possession, as neither team was able to put together any offensive pressure. UC Davis was awarded the first corner of the game, but the Ohio defense stole possession and countered. Moments later, DuCoin's recorded her first career-goal with an assist from Cole, giving Ohio a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the first quarter.

The Bobcats' defense was tested early in the second quarter, facing six shots total. As the first half was ending, the Aggies scored to tie the game 1-1 heading into halftime. Â

The teams traded shots in the second half, but neither was able to capitalize, forcing overtime.Â

UC Davis began overtime with two shots on goal, but Hershberger was solid in the cage, helping to extend the game. Ohio quickly responded with the game-winning goal scored by Dikotla from Risser to give the Bobcats the 2-1 victory.Â
