Louisville, Ky. –The Ohio field hockey (0-2) team returned to action for their second game of the 2025 season, falling to Louisville (2-0), 5-0 at Trager Stadium on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 31).
Â
The Bobcats recorded three shots with one on goal, while the Cardinals added 22 shots with 15 on goal.
Â
Senior goalkeeper Gwen Hershberger (Harrison City, Pa.) recorded nine saves on the day, while freshman Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thirsk, North Yorkshire) had the Bobcat's lone shot on goal in the game.
Â
The Bobcats got off to a strong start coming off the previous day's loss, answering early pressure from Louisville with strong defensive play. Hershberger saved all three first quarter shots on goal and sophomore Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) made a crucial shot block to keep the score knotted at 0-0 after the first 15.
Â
The Bobcats put pressure on the Louisville defense in the first frame, with Nhamoinesu getting the Bobcat's first shot on goal and forcing a penalty corner, resulting in a shot from senior Mary Huffman (Ypsilanti, Mich.).
Â
The Cardinals broke the stalemate with two quick goals late in the second quarter, creating a 2-0 deficit for the Bobcats going into halftime.
Â
The third quarter featured more strong defensive play from the Bobcats as Hershberger stopped the Cardinals' only shot on the goal in the period. Early in the fourth quarter a deflected shot gave Louisville a 3-0 lead, which the Cardinals would add two more to before the end of the game. The Louisville defense held Ohio at bay in the second half, as the Bobcats managed one shot in the final 30 minutes.Â
Â
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday (Sept. 6) when they travel to St. Louis University to take on the Bilikens in a non-conference matchup. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
