Dearing’s Two Goals Lead Ohio Soccer to 3-0 Victory at Oakland

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Led by two goals from sophomore Sania Dearing, the Ohio soccer team (2-3-0) got back in the win column Thursday evening (Aug. 28), defeating Oakland (1-3-1), 3-0 on the road.

Overall, Ohio outshot Oakland 15-2 with four shots on goal to Oakland's zero. Both teams had a few corner opportunities, with Oakland having two chances and Ohio having one.

Individually, sophomore Sania Dearing (Pickerington, Ohio) and senior Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.) led the Bobcats in scoring, with Dearing scoring two goals and Murray adding one. Dearing and senior Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio) led the team with three shots each, while Murray and senior Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio) both recorded two shots. Senior Maia Soulis (Sylvania, Ohio) registered an assist for the Bobcats.

Senior Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) got the start in net, playing all 90 minutes with no shots on goal, earning a shutout victory.

Both teams battled in the first 18 minutes of play before Oakland had the first shots of the game, missing high and left. The Bobcats responded with a few attempts of their own later in the half, but could not find the back of the net.

The Bobcats struck first in the 41st minute as Murray placed a shot in the upper right corner, giving Ohio the 1-0 lead headed into halftime.

Ohio outshot Oakland 5-1, with the Bobcats recording the only shot on goal.

Ohio came out of the half looking to score right away with shots from sophomore Allison Hooks (Milford, Mich.), junior Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich.), Pruss, and junior Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky). The pressure from the Bobcat offense forced the Oakland keeper to make an early save.

The pressure stayed on the Oakland defense throughout the half, with the Bobcats adding two more shots on the board.
In the 76th minute, Dearing scored the second goal of the match from a pass from Soulis. Dearing did not let up, adding another goal in the 79th minute, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead with 10 minutes left to go in the half.

Ohio had two more late shots in the 85th minute, both missing the target.

Oakland had a scoring opportunity in the 89th minute off a corner, but was unsuccessful, helping secure the Bobcats' 3-0 victory.
