ATHENS, Ohio --Â Ohio Athletics continued its recent history of solid Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, as announced by the NCAA in its 2023-24 data report, which was released this afternoon (May 6).Â
Ohio recorded a department-wide single-year APR score of 988 for 2023-24, marking the ninth-straight year the department has scored a 980 or better.Â
Ohio also tallied a department-wide multi-year APR score of 987, putting the Bobcats well above the NCAA mandated minimum four-year score of 930 required to compete in the 2024-25 postseason. NCAA members chose the 930 standard because that score predicts, on average, a 50% graduation rate. Additionally, teams must earn a four-year APR of at least 930 to avoid penalties. Â
Ten of the intercollegiate programs that represent Ohio achieved a perfect 1,000 single-year APR score, with the baseball, men's cross country, men's golf, wrestling, women's cross country, women's golf, softball, swimming and diving, track and field and volleyball teams attaining a perfect single-year APR score. Â
The Ohio baseball, football, men's golf, wrestling, softball, swimming and diving, track and field and volleyball programs all recorded single-year score improvements from 2022-23 to 2023-24. Men's and women's cross country and women's golf have earned consecutive perfect 1,000 single-year APR, with men's cross country hitting that mark for the fourth-straight year, women's cross country for the second -straight year and women's golf or the eighth-straight year.Â
"Our student-athletes' hard work in the classroom reflects the culture of academic success at Ohio, and we are incredibly proud of the 10 teams that scored a perfect single-year APR," said Director of Athletics Julie Cromer. "This sustained APR achievement highlights the value our athletes place on their degrees as they prepare for their bright futures. These scores are only possible through the efforts of incredibly hard-working student-athletes, faculty, staff and coaches."
The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every NCAA Division I athletics team. The most recent scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
