Ohio Men’s Basketball Adds UNCG Transfer Jalen Breath

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio men's basketball team has added UNCG transfer Jalen Breath to the roster, head coach Jeff Boals announced today (April 11). Breath will have one year of eligibility remaining. 

The 6'8, 225 forward, comes to Ohio after playing three seasons at UNCG. The Oklahoma City native played in 87 games, while making 61 starts as a Spartan. On his career, Breath averaged 5.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a game, while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the line. He also has 30 career blocks and 34 career steals. 

"We are very excited to add Jalen to our Ohio basketball family" Boals said.  "He brings a great defensive and rebounding presence to our roster. He has experience and comes from a winning program."

Last season, Breath played in 32 games, making 30 starts. The forward led UNCG in rebounding, with 7.0 rebounds a game. He also averaged 6.6 points a game, while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 67.9 percent from the line, while adding 16 steals and 14 blocks. He recorded five double doubles, while also grabbing 17 rebounds against Wofford on Feb. 1. He also recorded seven double figure scoring game, while scoring a season-high 16 points against High Point and Mercer this past season. 

In 2023-24, Breath played in 33 games, making 31 starts, averaging 6.2 rebounds and 6.8 points a game, while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 49.5 percent from the line. He also added 16 blocks and 14 steals for the Spartans. 

Prior to his time at UNCG, Breath was named All-State Second Team and All-Conference First Team after leading Booker T. Washington High in Tulsa to a state championship. During the 2020-21 season, he led the Hornets to a 20-5 overall record and made it to the state tournament before COVID ended their season abruptly. Breath also played at Link Year Prep.
