ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio men's basketball team has added Toledo transfer Javan Simmons to the roster, head coach
Jeff Boals announced today (April 8). The forward will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6'7, 235 pound forward from Gahanna, Ohio began his career at Toledo, where in two season he started all 65 games he played in. Simmons averaged 12.4 points and 5.9 rebounds a game, while shooting 55.1 percent from the field, 32.3 percent from three and 74.2 percent from the line. He was also the 2023-24 MAC Freshman of the Year, an All-MAC Honorable Mention in 2024-25 and is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.
"We are elated that Javan has joined our Ohio basketball family," Boals said. "He will give our team immediate front court productivity and physicality. We look forward to him helping us reach our goal of a MAC Tournament championship."
Last season, Simmons started all 33 games for the Rockets where he ranked third on team with 12.5 points per game and fifth in MAC with team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. He also topped MAC with 3.2 offensive rebounds per game and posted team-high 56.3 field goal percentage. Simmons averaged 13.4 points per game and a team-high 8.1 rebounds with 82.3 three throw percentage in MAC play. He scored in double digits in 22 contests, including the final seven games of season. He als scored a career-high 22 points twice last season.
During his freshman campaign in 2023-24, Simmons started all 32 games and ranked fourth on team with 12.2 points per game and 24 double-digit contests. He ranked fourth in MAC with team-high 54.0 field goal percentage and registered a team-high 0.9 blocks per game.
Simmons played his high school career at Gahanna Lincoln where he averaged 12.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game as senior. He helped the Lions to 25-3 record and was named to Division I all-state honorable mention, second-team all-district and first-team all-league squads and he served as team captain as junior and senior.
Simmons is the son of Anitra & Malcolm Simmons. His mom Anitra played college basketball at Dayton.
