ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (26-10, 9-2 MAC) defeated Toledo (10-23, 3-9 MAC), 3-2, Friday afternoon (April 11) at the Ohio Softball Field.

Overall, Ohio scored three runs on five hits and committed two errors, while Toledo scored two runs on five hits and committed one error.

Redshirt junior Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching seven innings, allowing two runs, none earned, on five hits, while walking two and striking out two.

At the plate, freshman Abby Kennelly (Waterville, Ohio) went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while senior Maddie Wilcox (Grove City, Ohio) added a solo home run. Senior CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio), sophomore Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) and sophomore Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) all added base hits for the Bobcats. Wilson and junior Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) both scored runs.

Toledo threatened in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff double, the runner moved to third on a ground out. However, as the runner went to score on a ground out, Farmer gunned the ball to home to catch the runner, ending the inning and sending the game to the bottom of the frame still scoreless.

Ohio struck in the bottom of the second when Wilcox crushed a leadoff solo home run to right, putting Ohio up 1-0 early.

After Toledo tied the game in the top of the fourth, the Bobcats regrouped. With a pinch runner second and third, Kennelly reached on a single and moved to second on a throwing error by the Toledo centerfielder, scoring Bare and Wilson, giving Ohio a 3-1 lead.

Toledo cut the Ohio lead to one in the top of the fifth inning, scoring on an RBI single, and putting a runner on third with two outs. However, the Ohio defense was able to get the final out of the inning, ending the threat and sending the game to the bottom of the fifth with the Bobcats still leading 3-2.

After a scoreless sixth inning from both teams, Toledo looked to rally in the top of the seventh. However, Miller and the rest of the Ohio defense was able to retire the Rockets in order, securing the 3-2 win.

The Bobcats wrap up the three-game series on Saturday, April 12 with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field. The games will be streamed on ESPN+.
