HUNTINGTON, W. Va. —
The Ohio baseball team fell 11-7 to Marshall (6-6) in its second-straight extra-innings game on Tuesday evening.

Marshall jumped out to an early lead after a double and single brought in a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. However, Ohio (3-8) didn't let the lead last long. In the top of the third, redshirt senior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) knocked a single through the right side to bring in Ohio's first run. Senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfeesboro, Tenn.) followed with a single of his own to right centerfield for another run. The rally ended after sophomore Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) grounded into a double play for an RBI.

Karll tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning with a two-RBI double to left field. The extra-base hit was his first double of the season.

The Thundering Herd started a slow climb out of the deficit in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly. The Bobcats followed that run with one of their own, though. Sophomore JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) laid a sacrifice bunt to score junior Cale Steinbaugh (Georgetown, Ill.) in the top of the eighth.

However, Marshall had eighth-inning plans of its own. Marshall collected on a two-RBI triple and an infield single with two outs on the board to bring the game within one run.

The Thundering Herd tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run.

Ohio knocked runners into scoring position throughout the 10th and 11th innings, but it was unable to get someone across the plate. Marshall ultimately took the win on a grand slam in the bottom of the 11th.

The Bobcats used nine arms on Tuesday night, with sophomore Jack Geiser (Medina, Ohio) getting the start. Reliever Luke Bryant (Ashland, Ohio) led the Bobcats with two strikeouts in an inning of work in his first collegiate appearance.

Karll, Dolan and Cauthron led the Bobcats at the plate with two hits each. Karll tallied the most RBI for the Bobcats at two. Nelson also recorded a career-high three walks.
