Szoke First Ohio Swimmer to Earn All-American Status Since 2000

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Ohio swimming sophomore Zita Szoke concluded her historic trip to the 2025 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday (March 22), placing 11th overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.62, becoming the first Bobcat to earn All-American status since 2000.
Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) is the first Ohio women's swimmer to earn All-American status since Kermit Blosser Ohio Athletics Hall of Fame member Hollie Bonewit-Cron earned the distinction in 2000.
Her 11th place finish is the highest finish at the NCAA Championships from a MAC swimmer this season, and it's the highest finish for a Bobcat since 1995 when Hall of Famer Lisa MacNicol (Mitchell) placed 11th in the 100 fly.
Coming off her 20th-place finish in the 200 free on Friday, Szoke was primed for the 100 free on Saturday. In the morning prelims, Szoke placed fifth in her heat, touching in with – at the time - a new Ohio and Mid-American Conference record time of 47.63, placing her 13th in the prelims, earning her a spot in the night's finals.
Szoke was back in the pool for the final session of the night in the 100-yard freestyle consolation finals where she placed third, 11th overall, with a time 47.62, breaking her own Ohio and MAC record that she set in the morning session.
The finish concludes a stellar run for Szoke at this year's NCAA Championships, placing 44th in the 50 free, setting a new school record and placing 20th in the 200 free, and her.
