DEKALB, Ill. – The Ohio volleyball team (12-15, 10-5 MAC) defeated Northern Illinois (11-13, 4-11 MAC) 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20) on Friday, Nov. 7.
Ohio finished with a .294 attack percentage, 63 kills, six aces, nine blocks, 52 assists and 55 digs. Northern Illinois finished with a .190 attack percentage, 41 kills, five aces, 13 blocks, 40 assists and 40 digs.
Freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) led Ohio's offense with 17 kills, 21.0 points and two aces. Sophomore
Sierra Evans (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied a career-high 12 kills in addition to 12.5 points. Junior
Gentry Brown (Shadyside, Ohio) finished with 10 kills and 11.5 points. Sophomore
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) and senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded 21 and 18 assists, respectively.
Junior
Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) led the team in blocking with two solo blocks and three block assists. Blair added two solo blocks, and White contributed two block assists.
Sophomore
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a team-high 10 digs. White and Janke recorded nine digs each while Brown added another eight digs.
The Bobcats got off to a good start in the first set. The team outperformed Northern Illinois 18-6 in kills, 14-6 in assists, 2-0 in aces and 11-5 in digs. Ohio took an early 1-0 lead with a 25-15 win in the first.
Northern Illinois tied the game at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second set.
Ohio took a 2-1 lead over Northern Illinois with a 25-19 win in the third set. It was a close set that came down to amount of attack errors. The Bobcats record three while the Huskies finished with eight, giving Ohio the advantage.
Ohio secured the 3-1 victory over Northern Illinois with a 25-20 win in the fourth and final set.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. ET. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
