ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio Bobcats wrestling team are set to open their slate of home meets at the Convocation Center Saturday, hosting Morgan State for a dual meet at the Ohio Showcase.
The Bobcats and Bears will not be alone on the mat, as the showcase will also feature division II and division III dual meets running concurrently to the division I dual. The Division II dual meet will feature Ashland University and UIndy, and the Division III dual will feature Baldwin Wallace and UIndy.
Head Coach
Joel Greenlee is excited at the prospect of hosting Ohio wrestling teams across Divisions I-III at the Convo: "I think it's a great event to showcase wrestling in the state of Ohio, and hopefully we can get a big crowd and people from the area can come out and support us and see how good wrestling is in the state of Ohio."
In the Division I dual, the host Bobcats are led by head coach Greenlee in his 27
th season in Athens. The Bobcats are coming off a weekend in Virginia wrestling at the Southeast Open, highlighted by freshman
Carson Weber (Shorewood, Ill.) taking home the title in the 149 lb. freshman/sophomore bracket.
The Bears are led by head coach Kenny Monday, in his fourth season at the helm. The Bears are coming off a weekend at the Navy Tournament in Annapolis, Md.
In the Division II dual, the 16
th ranked Ashland University Eagles are led by head coach Colt Sponseller, in his sixth year at the helm. The Eagles are coming off a fourth-place finish at the 14-team Glenville State Pioneer Open. Facing the Eagles on the mat are the UIndy Greyhounds, led by head coach Jason Warthan in his 16
th year. The Greyhounds are also coming off a weekend at the Pioneer Open, where they brought home three individual titles.
In the Division III dual, the 20
th ranked Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Jamie Gibbs in his 15
th season. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a team title at the Adrian (Mich.) Invitational, including eight individual champions. The Yellow Jackets will face the UW-Lacrosse Eagles, led by head coach Dave Malacek, in his 20
th season at the helm. The Eagles are coming off a win over Cornell College (Iowa) at the Wisconsin Showcase over the weekend.
The dual meets will begin at 5 p.m. at the Convocation Center, with streaming of the Division I dual on ESPN+. The Division II and III duals will be streaming on YouTube.
