ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, (Nov. 21) to compete in the TYR '85 Invite, hosted by Liberty University. The Bobcats lead the invite after one day of competition, earning four first-place finishes.
Ohio finished the day in first place with a score of 897, followed by the hosts, Liberty, with a score of 754, Campbell with a score of 390, UNC Pembroke with a score of 350, Saint Francis with a score of 224, California (PA) with a score of 177, Georgia Southern with a score of 81, and UNC-Asheville with a score of 29.
The Bobcats opened the finals meet with a first-place finish in the 4x50-yard freestyle relay. Freshman
Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.), junior
Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej), sophomore
Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W.V.), and junior
Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) finished with a time of 1:30.85.
In the 500-yard freestyle, senior
Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 4:57.95, and freshman
Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished in fifth place with a time of 4:58.62.
Freshman
Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, AZ) was the top Bobcat finisher in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:02.90. Senior
Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished in third place with a time of 2:03.37.
Szoke took home the first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.34, while Wittenberg finished in fourth place with a time of 23.24.
In the 4x100-yard medley relay, the Bobcats earned a second-place finish, with freshman
Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio), senior
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Claypoole, and Szoke finishing with a time of 3:35.80.
To wrap up Friday Night Lights, junior
Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) competed in the 1-meter dive, finishing with a score of 294.25, earning her the first-place finish. Freshman
Bella Basford finished in third place with a score of 264.20.
The Bobcats return for day two of the TYR '85 Invite tomorrow, November 22
nd, starting with prelims at 10 a.m., and finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
