KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ohio football program went on the road Tuesday night (Nov. 11) for a Mid-American Conference matchup with Western Michigan. After a hard-fought game, the Bobcats fell, 17-13. Â
Â
Redshirt senior running back Sieh Bangura (Bowie, Md.) led the Bobcats on offense with 97 rushing yards including a touchdown after averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Graduate student quarterback Parker Navarro (Tempe, Ariz.) also had an impressive day on the ground with 105 yards and a rushing touchdown. In the pass game, Ohio was led by redshirt sophomore tight end Mason Williams (Mogadore, Ohio), who had two receptions for 20 yards. Â
Â
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bobcats were led by redshirt junior linebacker Jack Fries (Cincinnati, Ohio) who had 11 total tackles. Freshman linebacker Charlie Christopher (Uniontown, Ohio) had seven tackles including four solo stops in the effort. Â
Â
After going down 3-0 early, Ohio responded with a nine-play 63-yard scoring drive that resulted in seven points. The run game was on full display on the drive, with three different Ohio players combining for 48 rush yards, culminating in a two-yard rushing score by Navarro. Â
Â
By the end of the game's first quarter, the Bobcats were on top, 7-3. Â
Â
No more scoring would occur in the first half for either team, as defenses dominated in the second quarter. Among Ohio's best plays in the quarter was a fourth-and-one stop after a pivotal tackle for no gain from redshirt senior defensive tackle Pius Odjugo (Wari, Nigeria) and junior defensive tackle Nehemiah Dukes (Douglasville, Ga.). Â
Â
Coming out of the halftime break, Western Michigan was quick to retain the lead, scoring on its first drive to take a 10-7 lead over the Bobcats with 10 minutes to play in the third quarter. Â
Â
Ohio got the ball back and went on its longest scoring drive of the season, spanning 83 yards, 17 plays and more than 10 minutes, resulting in a Bangura touchdown to take a 13-10 lead with 14:55 to play in the fourth quarter. Â
Â
Western Michigan would score a quick touchdown on the following drive to take a 17-13 lead, which would be enough to win the game. Â
Â
The Bobcats will be back in action next Tuesday when they take on UMass. That game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET from Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium and can be seen on CBS Sports Network. Â
