ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (2-14, 0-4 MAC) fell 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 13-15) to Buffalo (4-9, 1-3 MAC) on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Ohio finished with 62 kills, nine aces, four blocks, 56 assists and 62 digs. Buffalo finished with 56 kills, four aces, six blocks, 53 assists and 60 digs.
Junior
Gentry Brown (Shadyside, Ohio) led Ohio's offense with 17 kills and 17.5 points. Juniors
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) and
Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) finished with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) tallied a team-high 48 assists.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) led the team in digs with 14 total. Brown and White finished with 11 digs each.
Ohio kicked off the match with a respectable 25-19 win in the first set. The Bobcats' offense came out strong, recording 15 kills to Buffalo's nine.
Buffalo bounced back, tying the game at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second set.
The third set was a close one. After trail Ohio for majority of the set, Buffalo was able to crawl back within one point at the end. With the game at 24-23 in Ohio's favor, Gardner stepped up with a huge kill to win the set. The Bobcats earned a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.
Buffalo dominated the fourth set, 25-17, and tied the game at 2-2.
The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the fifth set. After trading points all set, Buffalo pulled off a 17-15 win. The Bulls defeated the Bobcats, 3-2.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Kent State on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
