ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (5-14, 3-4 MAC) earned the Battle of the Bricks victory with a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17) over Miami (9-10, 3-4 MAC) on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Ohio finished with a .272 attack percentage, 60 kills, six aces, 12 blocks, 55 assists and 64 digs. Miami finished with a .112 attack percentage, 40 kills, three aces, six blocks, 38 assists and 57 digs.
Senior
Kendall White (Gahanna, Ohio) was a vital player for Ohio both offensively and defensively. White recorded a double-double, finishing with a team-high 48 assists and 19 digs.
Junior
Gentry Brown (Shadyside, Ohio) led Ohio's offense with a team-high 15 kills and 19.0 points. Freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 14 kills and junior
Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) added 12 kills.
In addition to eight kills and 11.0 points, junior
Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) led the team in blocking with six block assists. Brown and sophomore
Sierra Evans (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded four block assists each.
Freshman
Mady Long (Vincent, Ohio) and junior
Caroline Curran (Wexford, Pa.) tallied a combined 23 digs.
Ohio got off to a solid start, winning the first 25-16 and taking a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats finished the first set with 15 kills, 12 assists, 17 digs, two blocks and a .316 attack percentage.
Miami tied the game at 1-1 with a 27-25 win in the second set.
The Bobcats bounced back in the third set. Ohio took a 2-1 lead with a 25-17 set win. In the third set, the Bobcats recorded 14 kills, 13 assists, two aces, 14 digs, four blocks and a .300 attack percentage.
Ohio secured a 3-1 victory over Miami after taking the fourth and final set in a 25-17 decision.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. ET.
