ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (4-15, 2-7 MAC) fell to Ball State (17-4, 9-0 MAC) 83-61 on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Graduate student
Anyssa Jones (Westerville, Ohio) led the Bobcats with a career-high 25 points. Jones finished 9-for-16 from the field, 4-for-5 from the arc and 3-for-4 from the line. Jones also recorded a team-high nine rebounds and two steals.
Seniors
Kennedi Watkins (Ballwin, Mo.) and
Kate Dennis (Rockford, Ill.) scored 12 points each.
Graduate student
Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a team-high four assists.
Ball State started the game with a 14-0 run, forcing the Bobcats to play catch up. Ohio slowly got on the board and eventually shortened Ball State's lead. With under a minute to go in the first quarter, Ohio trailed 22-18. Off a 7-0 run, Ball State held a 29-18 lead over the Bobcats at the end of the quarter.
The Cardinals continued to dominant in the second quarter, including a 10-0 run for over three minutes. Ohio trailed Ball State, 53-26 heading into the locker room.
The Bobcats were a different team in the third and fourth quarters. Ohio outscored Ball State 35-30 in the second half but were still unable to catch up with the Cardinals. Ohio ultimately fell to Ball State, 83-61.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Miami (OH) on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
