ATHENS, Ohio –The weather outside is cold and snowy, but the Convo is hot with MACtion! Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Ohio men's basketball team (10-7, 4-1 MAC) is back in action this week for two more big early season MAC contests. The week gets started on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when Ohio heads to Ypsilanti, Mich. to take on Eastern Michigan (8-5, 2-3 MAC). Tip-off is set for 6:30 p..m. ET inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio returns to Athens for a nationally televised matchup with Kent State (11-6, 2-3 MAC) on Friday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPNU. 

Ohio is coming off a 1-1 week that saw Ohio defeat Ball State at home on Tuesday, before falling on the road to Akron Friday night. Graduate student guard Shereef Mitchell led the Ohio men's basketball team this past week. Overall, Mitchell averaged 19.5 points a game, while shooting .609 from the field, .500 from three and going 8-of-9 from the line. He also added 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game. Against Ball State, Mitchell scored 12 points, going 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line, while grabbing two rebounds, dishing out three assists and grabbing four steals in the 86-71 victory. On Jan. 17 at Akron, Mitchell scored a career-high 27 points, going 9-of-16 from the field, 3-of-6 from three and 6-of-6 from the line, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out two assists and grabbing two steals.

Eastern Michigan enters the matchup with Ohio with an 8-9 overall record and a 203 mark in MAC play and are coming off a 68-62 win at Bowling Green on Saturday. Kent State currently sits at 1106 overall and 2-3 in MAC play. The Flashes are coming off back-to-back loses against Western Michigan and Miami and will face off with Toledo on the road on Tuesday before coming to Athens on Friday.

Ohio women's basketball (3-13, 153 MAC) is back in action this week for two more MAC matchups. The week begins on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when the Bobcats head to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Buffalo (15-2, 4-2 MAC). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Alumni Arena and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then returns to Athens on Saturday, Jan. 25 to host Eastern Michigan (1-15, 0-6 MAC). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. 

Ohio is coming off a competitive week against Bowling Green and Toledo. Senior guard Kennedi Watkins helped lead the Ohio women's basketball team this past week. Overall, Watkins averaged 15.5 points, shooting .357 from the field. .286 from three and went 9-of-9 from the line. She added 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game on the week. On Jan. 28 at Toledo, Watkins led Ohio with 25 points; shooting 9-for17 from the field, 2-for-3 from the arc and 5-for-5 from the line. Watkins scored 23 of her points in the second half. Earlier in the week against Bowling Green, Watkins scored six points and dished out three assists. 
 
Buffalo is 15-2 overall and 4-2 in MAC play and are coming off an eight-point win over Miami on Saturday at home. Eastern Michigan is 115 overall and 0-6 in MAC play. The Eagles are coming off a a road loss at Central Michigan and will take on NIU at home before heading to Athens. 

TRACK AND FIELD

The Ohio track and field team is back in action Jan. 24-25 at the 2025 Crossroads of America Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. The two-day event will take place at the Fall Creek Pavilion. Day one is set to begin at 5 p.m., with the final day of competition set to start at 11 a.m. on Saturday.  

Ohio is coming off a trip to the Al Campbell Invite last Friday. Junior Sara Doughman placed third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:15.89. Senior Sarah Liederbach placed fourth in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 5:08.23. In the women's 3,000 meters, junior Morgan Roth placed sixth with a time of 10:32.02. Freshman Sophie Lane placed ninth with a personal-best time of 10:43.63.Senior Millie Ryan  competed for Ohio in both the women's shot put and weight throw. Ryan placed ninth in the shot put (12.22m/40-1.25) and finished 18th in the weight throw (12.67m/41-7).

SWIM AND DIVE

The Ohio swimming and diving team returns to the pull as a complete unit for the first time since November this Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Bobcats head to Marshall. The dual meet is set to begin at 7 .m. at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium and can be seen on ESPN+. 

The Bobcats last competed Nov. 22-24 at the 2024 TYR '85 Invite in Lynchburg, Va., where the Bobcats placed second overall. The divers last competed Jan. 10-12 at the UB diving Invite where sophomore Astrid Pichardo placed fifth in the 3-meter event with a score of 277.20.

WRESTLING

Thw Ohio wresting team (5-2, 3-0 MAC) are back in action for their second of four-straight home duals on Saturday, Jan. 25 when Ohio hosts Northern Illinois (2-3, 2-1 MAC). The dual is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. 

Ohio is coming off a dual against Edinboro on Jan. 19 in Athen where there Bobcats won, 26-14. Ohio secured back-to-back technical falls in the 174-pound and 184-pound classes. Redshirt junior Garrett Thompson  collected the first, a 15-0 at 3:29, over Brody Evans. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko followed with a 20-3 at 4:12 over Jared McGill, and redshirt senior Jordan Greer fended off Aden Roe for a 5-3 decision to round out the team victory. 

NIU enters the matchup with a 2-3 overall mark and a 2-1 record in the MAC. The Huskies are coming off a loss at Central Michigan on Jan. 17.
