HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Ohio volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 MAC) took down High Point (2-3, 0-0 Big South) 3-2 (15-25, 25-19, 28-26, 24-26, 15-10) on Friday, Sept. 6 in High Point, N.C.
Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) was an offensive force for Ohio with a career-high 23 kills resulting in 23.0 points. Sophomore
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) also tallied a career-high 17 kills and 13 digs, scoring 17.5 points for the Bobcats.
Senior
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) recorded an impressive .625 hitting percentage with 11 kills on 16 total attacks. Sophomore
Emily Waddell (Zionsville, Ind.) tallied nine kills and recorded a .409 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) led the team in digs with 23 total and junior
Chariti McKeller (Toledo, Ohio) had a team-high 42 assists. Freshman
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with two aces, 15 digs and 11.0 points.
High Point took the first set of the match in a 25-15 decision.
Ohio started the second set with a different energy, challenging the Panthers as the team earning a 25-19 win to even the match at 1-1. Both teams traded points until the Bobcats pulled away slightly at 21-18. From there, Ohio went on a 4-1 scoring run. Kharchynska led the Bobcats with eight kills in the set. McKeller also distributed 15 assists.
The third set was an exciting one for both teams. The Bobcats came back from a four-point deficient and forced the set into extra points, eventually earning a 28-26 win over the Panthers. Kharchynska and Hunt tallied six kills each while McKeller dished out 13 assists. Ricketts recorded two aces during the set.
Set four was another tight one as High Point earned a 26-24 win and forced the match into five sets.
The Bobcats went on to secure the 3-2 victory with a 15-10 win in the fifth set.
Ohio will be back in action versus Mercer on Saturday, Sept. 7 in High Point, N.C. The match is set to begin at 3 PM and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
