ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio soccer team (6-1-4, 1-0-3 MAC) returned to action on Sunday (Sept. 29) at Chessa Field, battling Mid-American Conference foe Kent State (5-3-2, 2-1-1 MAC), finishing the game with a 0-0 tie.
Ohio outshot Kent State, 18-7, with the Bobcats putting four shots on target, compared to the Golden Flashes' two.
Junior goalkeeper junior Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) made two saves, while the team earned eight corner kicks during the match.
Individually, junior Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.) led the Bobcats with two shots on goal, followed by graduate student, Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio) who recorded one shot on goal.
Ohio started off the game with explosive energy against Kent State, taking a corner in the first minute of the match. Murray takes the first shot on goal for the game in the 8th minute, with a save by Kent State keeper, Heidi Marhsall. Murray took a second attempt in the 27th minute, with a last minute save from the Golden Flashes' keeper, keeping the match knotted at 0-0 going into the half.
At the break, Ohio outshot Kent State 9-2, with the Bobcats recording two shots on goal.
The Bobcats and the Flashes continued to battle for possession in the second half, still with neither team changing the score. In the 65th minute, Rea took a shot on goal which was saved by Kent State keeper, Marshall. Neither team were able to generate a goal over the remaining minutes, with the match ending in a 0-0 tie.
Ohio will be back on the road and back in action on Sunday, Oct. 6 to take on Akron. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
