Ohio Baseball Hands Bowling Green its First Conference Loss in Series Finale

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (11-24, 7-14 MAC) handed Bowling Green (22-12, 17-1) their first conference loss of the season Sunday afternoon (April 21), defeating the Falcons 4-2. 

Overall, the Bobcats scored four runs on seven hits and committed one error. Bowling Green had two runs on seven hits with no errors. 

At the plate, freshman Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) had three hits and recorded two RBIs. Junior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had one run on one hit along with one RBI and a double. Redshirt junior AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) also had one run on one hit and recorded one RBI. 

Junior Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) got the start on the mound, allowing two runs and five run with seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings pitched. Junior Zach Weber (Lebanon, Ohio) got the win, only giving up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts and three walks.  

Bowling Green hit a one-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to break the tie with a 1-0 lead. Bowling Green doubled their lead in the sixth, setting the score at 2-0 after six.  

The Bobcats looked for an answer offensively after being held scoreless through eight innings. After two walks, back-to-back RBIs from Cauthron and Rausch tied the game late for Ohio. Soon after, Karll stepped up to bat and singled to left center to bring Cauthron and Rausch racing across home to give the Bobcats' their first lead of the game.  

The Ohio defense shut down Bowling Green in the bottom of the ninth, winning in comeback fashion, 4-2.  

Up next, the Bobcats will host Morehead State at Bob Wren Stadium on Tuesday, April 23. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
