Ohio Softball Drops Series Finale at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (13-17, 1-5 MAC) wrapped up the three-game series at Miami (22-6, 6-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 at the Miami Softball Stadium. 
 
Overall, Ohio scored two runs on six hits and committed one error, while Miami scored five runs on nine hits and did not commit an error. 
 
Individually, freshman Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) recorded two hits and scored a run, while junior CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) registered a double and two RBI. Senior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), sophomore Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) and junior Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) all recorded hits for the Bobcats. 
 
In the circle, redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) pitched six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while walking five and striking out three. 
 
Ohio looked to get on the board first in the top of the first inning. After senior Tori O'Brien (Mason, Ohio) walked to lead off the inning, Logan singled with one out to put runners on first and second. However, the Bobcats were unable to take advantage of the baserunners, sending the game to the bottom of the inning still scoreless. 
 
Miami got on the board in the bottom of the inning, taking a 2-0 lead going into the second inning. 
 
Ohio looked to get a run back in the top of the fourth when Westler reached on a one-out single, however, the Miami defense was able to get the next two outs, sending the game to the bottom of the fourth with the RedHawks leading, 2-0. Miami added on in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run on two hits, while leaving the bases loaded, taking a 3-0 lead into the fifth. 
 
Ohio looked to get on the board in the top of the fifth inning, with Wilson reaching on a single up the middle, however, Ohio was unable to get on the board, sending the game to the bottom of the inning, still trailing, 3-0. 
 
The RedHawks would add on in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 5-0 lead after scoring two runs on two hits. 
 
Ohio got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. After Hoffner singled to lead off the inning, the Bobcats hit into two fielder's choices, leading to a single from Wilson putting runners on first and second with two outs. Moments later, Keidel double to center, scoring two and cutting the deficit to three runs. However, the was all the offense the Bobcats would get, falling by the final of 5-2. 
 
Up next, the Bobcats return to Athens March 29-30 for a three-game series against Central Michigan. The series starts on Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field, before wrapping up the series on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader set to start at 1 p.m. at the OSF.
