BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Ohio softball team (1-4) wrapped up the 2024 FAU Paradise Classic Sunday morning (Feb. 11), falling to Penn State (5-0), 4-1, at Joan Joyce Field.

Ohio scored one run on two hits and committed one error, while Penn State scored four runs on eight hits and had two errors.

Sophomore Shelby Westler (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio), while junior Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) and junior Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa) both drew two walks.

In the circle, redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start and pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out one.

After the Bobcats got out of an early jam, the Bobcats got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, with Yuhas scoring on an RBI single from Westler, giving Ohio the 1-0 lead after the first inning of play.

After Penn State took a one-run lead in the top of the third, the Bobcats threatened in the bottom of the fifth. After senior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) reached on an error, Hoffner drew a walk, putting a runner in scoring position. However, Ohio was unable to capitalize, sending the game to the sixth with Ohio trailing 2-1.

Penn State added two runs in the top of the seventh inning and despite the Bobcats recording base runners in the bottom of the frame, Ohio was unable to erase the deficit, falling by the final of 4-1.

Ohio is back in action Feb. 16-18 when they head to Greensboro, N.C. for the 2024 Spiro Classic hosted by UNCG. While there, Ohio will face Sacred Heart, Drexel and UNCG.
