KENT, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (12-13, 8-6 MAC) swept Kent State (2-22, 1-13 MAC) (25-21, 25-18, 25-23) on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Junior Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led Ohio's offense with 14 kills and a team-high .500 hit percentage. Graduate student Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) contributed nine kills and six digs. Sophomore Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) tallied seven kills along with three aces, two blocks, and six digs.
The first set began as a close battle with neither team being able to pull ahead from the other. Trailing 18-17, the Bobcats sparked a 5-1 run for a four-point advantage to ultimately win set one, 25-21.
Ohio began set two with an early lead before Kent State tied the set at eight a side. The Bobcats rallied for a 10-3 run to retake their lead at 19-13. Kent State cut their deficit to three, but Ohio scored five of the last six points to win set two, 25-18.
Set three was neck-and-neck throughout. The Bobcats found themselves down 23-22, but a late push from the Bobcats earned them the win at 25-23, completing the sweep.
