Ohio Wrestling Drops Battle against Michigan State

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio wrestling team (1-1) returned to action Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) for its home opener, falling to Big Ten opponent Michigan State, 22-18, inside the Convocation Center.

Redshirt sophomore Logan Cravatas (Medina, Ohio) was the first to score points for Ohio, ending with 2:07 minutes of riding time. Cravatas and redshirt junior Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, PA) both scored multiple takedowns during their matches in 149 and 174 respectively.

Directly after Cravatas, redshirt junior Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) dominated Michigan state in 157 pounds with two takedowns and a near fall. He finished the third period with 2:42 minutes of riding time. With this, he earned the shutout with the individual score, 13-0.

Redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko (Northfield, Ohio) scored a takedown at the beginning of the first period in the 184-weight class, setting the tone for the rest of the match. In a close fight, Olszko came out on top with 4-2. Despite dropping his bout, redshirt Sophomore Jack Lledo (Penn Valley, Pa.) had the crowd cheering the loudest as he fought a hard match for the entire duration in 165 pounds.

Redshirt senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio) wrapped up the meet for the Bobcats in 285, picking up the 8-0 shutout.

Ohio will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Annapolis, Md. In the Navy Classic. The event is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET.
