NORMAL, Ill. – The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up the two-day dual meet with Illinois State Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19), with the Bobcats earning their second victory of the season, defeating ISU, 273-139.

In the first event of the day, the 1-meter dive, sophomore Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) picked up a second-place finish with a score of 280.35. Sophomore Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) placed third (255.98), while senior Sophie Cooper (Milford, Ohio) finished fourth with a score of 239.33. With her dive this afternoon, Pichardo earned her NCAA Zone Diving cut in the 1-meter dive.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of junior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), sophomore Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) and graduate student Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) finished first, touching in with a time of 1:44.94.

Senior Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was back in action in the 1,000 free, picking up a first-place finish with a time of 10:26.10. Sophomore Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) placed third (10:40.63), while freshman Maddie Berg finished fourth in 10:44.50.

In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) earned a second-place finish with a time of 1:55.69. Sophomore Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind) finished third (1:56.58) and junior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed fourth in 1:57.34. Sophomore Isabella Arbaugh (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earned a fifth-place finish in the event, touching in with a time of 1:58.56.

Schrank was back in action in the 100 back, placing second with a time of 58.29, while freshman Leah Guess (Hartville, Ohio) finished third, touching in with a time of 59.06.

The Bobcats took four of the top five spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, with DiBetta placing first in 1:03.97, followed by senior Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) in second with a time of 1:05.81. Senior Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) placed fourth with a time of 1:07.03, while freshman AnnaLiess Stith finished fifth in 1:09.03.

McKee picked up her second individual victory of the day in the 200 fly, finishing the race in 2:05.74, while freshman Melissa Blaine (Cape Coral, Fla.) placed third with a time of 2:10.76.

Szoke earned the first-place finish in the 50 free, touching in with a time of 23.89, while Dunigan placed second in 24.34. Then in the 100-yard freestyle, Buroker finished second with a time of 53.65, while Dunigan finished third (53.71) and junior Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) finished fifth with a time of 56.52.

Freshman Juliana Slaninka earned a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke, while freshman Sofia Matern (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed third in 2:07.32.

DiBetta picked up another first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:19.31, while junior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) finished second (2:22.19), Strine in third (2:23.90) and Sawyer in fourth (2:24.46).

McGrath picked up a first-place finish in the 500 free, touching in with a time of 5:12.78, while Berg finished in third (5:15.17), Sallows in fourth (5:16.17) and Blaine in fifth with a time of 5:17.10.

Szoke was back in action in the 100 fly, where she placed first with a time of 56.39, followed by Claypoole in second with a time of 57.67.

Ohio took the top four spots in the 200-yard IM, with Ellsworth placing first (2:08.01), McKee in second (2:08.52)., junior Alexandra Wayner (Savannah, Ga.) in third (2:12.83) and senior Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) in fourth with a time of 2:13.95.

In the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Ohio 'A' team of Szoke, Dunigan, Claypoole and Buroker placed first with a time of 3:30.15.

At the end of the weekend, the Bobcats came away with a number of records from the pool. Szoke and DiBetta set pool records in the 50 fly and the 50 breast, respectively, while the 200 free relay team also set the pool record. Szoke earned CSCAA cuts in the 50 fly and the 100 IM, while DiBetta earned her CSCAA cut in the 50 breaststroke.

Ohio is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9 when the Bobcats head to oxford, Ohio to take on Miami. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
