ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (5-7, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) defeated Bellarmine 3-1 Friday (Oct. 11) afternoon for its second conference win of the season.
The Knights (3-8, 1-3 MAC) struggled to defend the Bobcats in the first half. Junior back Emily Risser (Palmyra, Pa.) got the Bobcats on the board first with a goal in the tenth minute. The Bobcats continued to put pressure on their opponent's defense, however did not land another in the net that half.
Ohio's second goal came in the third quarter. Junior forward Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) knocked in her fourth goal of the season to extend Ohio's lead to two.
Bellarmine finally broke through Ohio's tactical defense in the 52nd minute. Sammie Callaghan snuck one into the net for her second goal of the season. However, senior midfielder Bodhi Littlefield gave Ohio the insurance it needed with a goal not even a minute later.
The Bobcats kept the Knights to six shots compared to their 16, with just two being shots on goal.
Ohio will be back in action Sunday (Oct. 13) against Penn State. First touch is set for noon at Pruitt Field.
